This weekend was hold the Munich Mash event 2019, for the first time ever, women participated in their own competition in front of a huge crowd of more than 10.000 spectators. Here is the review ! (Don’t miss the 2018 one)

80 000 visitors celebrate MASH 2019

“It was hot in every sense of the word. Top-class events, huge crowds of spectators braving the sun and an atmosphere that you almost only get here at MASH – what more could you want?,” smiled Marion Schöne, CEO of Olympic Park Munich, as she reflected on a successful MASH 2019.
From 28 to 30 June, 80,000 visitors flocked to the Olympic Park Munich to experience three days of action sports. “I am delighted that despite the heat so many people came here to the Olympic Park. With MASH, we and our partners have once again touched a nerve. I am particularly pleased that the women’s events proved so popular with the crowd.”

Wakeboarding, skating, BMX, dancing, shopping, admiring, listening to music and chilling – the MASH Fest was a celebration of everything that makes the action sports scene so special. Around 100 stands offered visitors all manner of fun and entertainment. “I am convinced that it is this mix of high-class contests and the MASH Fest that makes the event so popular and successful,” said Marion Schöne. This year once again the MASH Fest was a central meeting point for people of all ages and interests with its interactive zones, music, art, culture and infotainment.

She came to win – and she certainly didn’t disappoint. Germany‘s Julia Rick won the first Wakeboard Park Women‘s Contest at the Olympic Park in front of 10,000 fans. Things remained exciting right up until the end, with America’s Anna Nikstad leading the way in the standings until Rick’s final run. The nine-time world champion rose to the challenge and threw down a Toeside Backside 720 on the big kicker, combining this banger trick with a clean run over the other obstacles to push Anna Nikstad off top spot. “I am so happy to have won here. The contest here is really special and the park is technical and challenging to ride,” commented the 26 year-old. Third spot went to Mary Rougier (France).

“What a weekend,” smiled Wakeboard Park Men’s Contest winner Dominik Hernler, who won the event for the second time after triumphing in 2016. Unlike in the women’s event, the Austrian claimed victory with his first run on the course in Munich. Second place went to Liam Peacock (UK) and third to John Dreiling (USA). “I had something up my sleeve for the second run, but in the end I didn’t need it,” commented 27-year-old Hernler. “The whole MASH weekend was insane,” said Jascha Wronka, who was in charge of the Wakeboard Park Contest. “The fans could see even more different tricks in even more different varieties than last year thanks to the new set-up.” He was also pleased with the success of the inaugural Team Contest, which the team of John Dreiling (USA), Anna Nikstad (USA) and Liam Peacock (UK) won on Friday.

The countdown to MASH 2017 is on!

MASH 2017:

The countdown to MASH is on! In just two weeks – from 23 to 25 June – Munich’s Olympic Park will welcome the world’s top action sports stars and a huge number of fans for the fourth edition of MUNICH MASH. Preparations for the event are in full swing. The start lists for the first stop of the STREET LEAGUE SKATEBOARDING NIKE SB WORLD TOUR and the WAKEBOARD RAIL & AIR are already complete, with just one place left to fill for the BMX SPINE RAMP contest. And the program of side events and activities accompanying the action at MASH is growing by the day. Time for an update!

STREET LEAGUE SKATEBOARDING NIKE SB WORLD TOUR

The athletes competing in this year’s Street League Skateboarding Nike SB World Tour have now been confirmed. After two days of thrilling action, Yuto Horigome and Dashawn Jordan booked their places on the World Tour at the SLS Nike SB Pro Open in Barcelona and will now join SLS pros like SLS World Champion 2016, Shane O’Neill, Evan Smith, Nyjah Huston, Ishod Wair, Chris Cole and Sean Malto in Munich’s Olympic Ice Stadium on Saturday 24 June for the first stop of the STREET LEAGUE SKATEBOARDING NIKE SB WORLD TOUR. “The energy and support from the fans in the sold-out Olympic Ice Stadium was one of the absolute highlights of the Tour last year,” comments SLS President Brian Atlas. The organisers and fans will be looking to replicate that atmosphere this year as the top 30 skateboarders in the world do battle in Munich. WAKEBOARD RAIL & AIR

“I am totally stoked. Everything worked out perfectly today. And on top of that the atmosphere at the Olympic Lake was really cool,” said Dominik Hernler (AUT) after his victory at last year’s MASH Wakeboard Contest, where he claimed top spot ahead of local heroes Dominik Gührs and Nico von Lerchenfeld. He will be looking to replicate his win at the WAKEBOARD RAIL & AIR 2017, but it won’t be easy. On Friday 23 June and Sunday 25 June the top three athletes from last year will take on some of the best in the world, including 19-year-old Guenther Oka from the USA – who had a super strong year in 2016 – and 21-year-old Aaron Gunn from Australia – a two-time world champion in his own right. Among the other riders on the 8 June 2017start line will be the 22-year-old American John Dreiling (3rd overall in the Wake Park World Series 2016) as well as MASH veteran William Klang from Sweden and the German duo of Bene Tremmel and Alexander Aulbach. If you thought the action was extreme last year, things are set to get even more intense in 2017 with a new Big Air set-up featuring rails and other obstacles. Get ready to be amazed as the world’s top 16 wakeboard athletes take to the water for a contest packed with sick tricks and huge airtime on the Olympic Lake! BMX SPINE RAMP

The BMX SPINE RAMP contest is set to make its MASH debut on Friday 23 June (Best Trick) and Saturday 24 June (Final) with a top international field of riders from eight countries. The mix of Quarter Pipe, Spine, Extension, Wall Ride and Sub Box makes the Spine Ramp one huge 250m2 playground up to five metres in height where the world’s best freestyle BMX pros will go head- to-head in front of a huge crowd on Coubertin Square. Among those lining up on the start line will be five-time X Games gold medallist Daniel Dhers (Venezuela/32 years) and the 22-year-old American Kevin Peraza, who won gold at the 2016 X Games. Other athletes to have confirmed their participation include Britain’s Jack Clark (22 years), who won last year’s Boardmasters event, and 28-year-old Tom Justice (28), third at Boardmasters 2016, as well as Ben Wallace (30), who has twice won silver at the X Games. Konstantin Andreev (24) is one of Russia’s top freestyle BMX riders and will be joined by 27-year-old Dutch rider Daniel Wedemeijer, Croatia‘s Marin Rantes (21) and the Czech “trick machine” Michael Beran (27). One thing is for sure: German BMX stars Paul Thölen (18 years old from Viersen), Timo Schulze (18 years old from Gelsenkirchen) and Tobias Freigang (22 years old from Wachtendonk) will have their work cut out to achieve a podium place but will be fighting hard against the crème de la crème of the international elite. MASH FEST

No other event embodies the spirit of action sports like MASH. As well as the sporting events there will be plenty of side events and activities going on throughout the festival – from havens of peace and quiet to get away from it all to rocking parties with plenty of different types of music for all tastes.

Access to the MASH FEST is free for everyone. This area combines art, culture and infotainment and is a central meeting point for visitors to MASH. For 2017 the organisers have again stepped things up a level with even more stands to try out the latest trends, big foodtrucks to satisfy the most hungry of stomachs and a chill-out areas to relax and digest. CULTURAL VILLAGE

Where better to kick back and appreciate the finer things in life than in the CULTURAL VILLAGE? Surrounded by art, handicrafts and cool design projects, visitors to MASH can get inspired and enjoy the Zen atmosphere of this cultural melting pot.

MASH PARTY

For the second year in a row the radio station PULS will be the official MASH media partner. In cooperation with Matthias Fischer, who is responsible for pop music at the regional government, PULS has helped to create the MASH PARTY on Saturday 24 June in the Restaurant Olympiasee. The action starts at 16:00 (until 3:00) with DJ CASPAR (Crux/PULS), followed by X T O P H, head of music at PULS and Cord Club Resident. The final set of the night will see Freez (Pandaparty) take to the decks to keep the MASH fans dancing until the early hours of the morning. Admission to the MASH PARTY is free of charge.

MASH FEST STAGE

MASH wouldn’t be MASH without live music! A total of 16 bands will rock the event from Friday 23 June all the way through to Sunday 25 June at the MASH FEST STAGE located on the roof of the Small Olympic Hall. Indie, Rock, Pop, Hip Hop or Electro – whatever your taste, MASH has the right vibe! The music starts on Friday at 15:00, on Saturday at 11:30 and on Sunday at 12:00. As in 2016, admission to the concerts at the MASH FEST STAGE is free!

“Dominik Hernler rocked the Olympic Lake this Sunday with victory at the WAKEBOARD BIG AIR event. The Austrian pulled off a stunning Switch Mobe Melon to claim top spot ahead of local heroes Dominik Gührs and Nico von Lerchenfeld at what was the first edition of this exciting event in Munich’s Olympic Park. “I am so happy. Today everything came off and the atmosphere here at the Olympic Lake was really cool,” commented event winner Hernler.
