2022 WWA WAKE PARK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESENTED BY NAUTIQUE BOATS HOSTED BY LIQUID LEISURE, HOME OF PLASTIC PLAYGROUNDS

The World Wake Association (WWA) and Liquid Leisure are excited to announce 2022 WWA Wake Park World Championships presented by Nautique Boats is heading to one of the most iconic and progressive wake parks in the World, Liquid Leisure Windsor in the U.K. With Liquid Leisure and it’s Plastic Playgrounds event being widely respected by the athletes, this Wake Park World Championship event is no doubt set to be one of the most anticipated wake park events of the season.

“The WWA is looking forward to this partnership with Liquid Leisure,”  says WWA president Shannon Starling, “We are combining the coveted WWA Wake Park World Championships with the premier, sport-changing Plastic Playgrounds. We pride ourselves working with athletes and creative organizers that support a constantly evolving sport. This is what Liquid Leisure and Plastic Playgrounds brings to the table. This is a game changer.”

The 2022 WWA Wake Park World Championships presented by Nautique Boats will no doubt showcase the most progressive and impressive riding of the season as riders from around the globe make the journey to Liquid Leisure in hopes of bringing home a WWA World title and a piece of the $40,000 prize purse.

Stuart Marston, founder of Plastic Playground and Managing Director of Liquid Leisure stated, “This is a fantastic opportunity to work with the World Wake Association to put together the biggest event in cable wakeboarding since COVID-19. We have missed seeing all of the elite athletes together over the last two years and look forward to welcoming both them and the rest of the world back to London, England in July 2022”.

The WWA’s mission is to progress wake sports at both an individual and global level. We encourage parks from around the globe to bring their teams to Liquid Leisure for a chance to earn their parks’ 2022 World Title.

HEATS FORMAT

Round will consist of 2 runs.
Run will start from the dock and will be 1 whole lap and finish on the kickers.
There will be no pickups.
Your best run will count.

H2H FORMAT

One on One knockout heat
Round will consist of two runs
Run will start from the dock and will be 1 whole lap and finish on the kickers.
There will be no pickups.
Lowest score rides first in the second run.
Highest score wins

FINAL FOUR FORMAT

Each round will consist of 2 runs.
Run will start from the dock and will be 1 whole lap and finish on the kickers.
There will be no pickups.
Lowest score rides first in the second round.
Your best run will count.

JUDGING

Each run will consist of 5 sections
(Kickers/Sect 1/Sect 2/Sect 3/Sect4).
Sections are highlighted on the diagram above.
Each judge will give a score out of 10 per section
5 judges will judge each run with the top and bottom scores being dropped.
Final score will be out of 100

WE ARE LOOKING FOR

5 sections make up this course so there is room to mix it up.
Judges want to see good execution on all tricks (clean/well grabbed/not zeached)
Composition is important, if you spin one way or repeat tricks it will affect your score (make sure you’re mixing it up)

The 2015 Plastic Playground was a blast for all the riders who came from 21 countries around the world especially for this event. After many fantastics runs in the finals, by the world’s 9 bests riders, Dominik Hernler took the lead just ahead of Mr Daniel Grant. Julian Cohen grabbed the last step of the podium and he won $4000 – not bad at all.

Here’s a recap of the action at the 2015 Plastic Playground!

John Dreiling took the unlucky 4th place but went home with $3000. The 5th place position went to Victor Salmon, an awesome Belgian rider, who’s 16 years old and spends 6 months every year in Thailand. Mr Oli Derome, an unbelievable pro boat rider, always gives us a surprise with his riding at a park like the Plastic Playground. He is usually close to the podium with his stylish riding but was unlucky this time finishing in 6th place with $1000 cash. What can I say about those last 3 British guys in this insane final? The oldest one, Nick Davies, is one of the most talented riders of the last decade and he fought really hard to grab the podium and he finished 7th.
The Peacock brothers, new comers to this type of contest, came from the qualifications runs!
Ryan and Liam are part of the the Water Sports World Wakeboard England team and they are sponsored by Ronix Wakeboards, Mystic, MUVI and RAW Energy gum. It’s hard to believe that Liam, at only 15 years old and Ryan at only 17, are already sponsored by so many well known wakeboard brands. You can’t imagine the level of these 2 riders, so many awesome runs one after another.
These 2 guys had ridden the park more than anyone in this contest. By the way the youngest one beat the older one and together they took the 8th and 9th places of this final.

Next year will be insane according to Stuart Martson, the organizer. Cash prizes will grow from 30k$ to 40k$ and the pro-wakeboard girls will take a part in this big wakeboard party, “The Plastic Playground 2016” at Liquid Leisure Wake Park London. Big thanks to all the Liquid Leisure staff who did an awesome job to make this event memorable.
I know we will see YOU there next year!
