2025 Centurion World Wake Surfing Championship: When Progression Met Perfection

By Philippe Sirech

Let me tell you something about the 2025 Centurion World Wake Surfing Championship — this wasn’t just another contest. This was wakesurfing stripped down to its raw, beautiful essence and then rebuilt into something that redefined what we thought was possible.

For one week, the water became a stage. The riders? They weren’t just competitors. They were artists with fiberglass under their feet, painting lines across Centurion’s liquid canvas that’ll be remembered long after the trophy photos fade.

The Wake That Changed Everything

I’ve been on a lot of boats. I’ve seen a lot of wakes. But what Centurion delivered this year wasn’t just good — it was surgical precision wrapped in raw power. Clean. Consistent. Unforgiving in the best possible way.

These wakes didn’t make excuses. They demanded excellence, and the riders answered back with a middle finger to gravity and a masterclass in style.

From the first heat, you could feel it. The electricity. That crackling tension when you know you’re about to witness something that’ll shift the sport’s axis. Riders lined up, locked in, and proceeded to dismantle every preconception about what’s possible on a wake.

The playbook got rewritten. Then burned. Then rewritten again.

The Gladiators and the Groms

The pros brought violence — the good kind. The kind that makes you put your phone down and actually watch. Explosive airs that seemed to defy the laws of physics. Rotations so clean you could set your watch by them. And that flow — that ineffable blend of power and grace that separates the champions from the merely talented.

But here’s what got me: the kids.

These young guns showed up with YouTube education and zero fear, throwing tricks that would’ve been podium-worthy five years ago like they were warming up. They didn’t just want a seat at the table — they brought their own damn chairs.

Every division delivered:

Amplitude that threatened low-flying aircraft.

Spins and reverts that borrowed from skateboarding’s best vocabulary and translated it to water with perfect fluency.

Technical wizardry that proved wakesurfing has officially graduated from “fun boat thing” to legitimate athletic art form.

The judges had their work cut out for them. This wasn’t just about counting rotations anymore. They were scoring style, commitment, and that intangible quality that makes you rewind the footage three times just to figure out what you just witnessed.

More Than a Competition — It’s a Movement

Here’s what the mainstream media doesn’t get about events like this: it’s not about the trophies.

Sure, everybody wants to win. But walk the shoreline at dawn and you’ll find something deeper. Families who’ve been coming for years. Kids getting autographs from heroes who probably learned the same tricks on the same YouTube channels. Industry veterans swapping stories with first-timers who just discovered the sport last summer.

This is community, uncensored and unfiltered.

The Centurion Championship has always understood this. Between heats, you’d find athlete panels where the pros talked about the reality behind the Instagram posts — the injuries, the doubts, the 4 a.m. gym sessions. Brand activations that actually felt authentic instead of corporate. Demos where everyday riders could feel what $200K worth of engineering feels like under their feet.

The vibe wasn’t manufactured. It was earned. One session, one conversation, one shared moment of stoke at a time.

The Machine Behind the Magic

Let’s talk about the elephant in the boat — or more accurately, the masterpiece of marine engineering that made all this possible.

Centurion Boats.

Since 1976, these guys have been in the wake-creation business, and they’ve elevated it to an art form. Under the Correct Craft umbrella with their “Making Lives Better” mission (which sounds corporate until you see it in action), Centurion has consistently delivered what riders actually need: wakes that don’t lie.

No excuses. No inconsistency. Just pure, predictable power that lets athletes focus on progression instead of fighting the platform.

The riders felt it. I saw it in their faces after runs — that look that says, “The wake gave me everything I needed. The rest was on me.”

That’s the difference between good equipment and great equipment. Great equipment disappears, leaving only pure performance.

Why This Matters (And Why You Should Care)

The 2025 championship wasn’t just a snapshot of where wakesurfing is — it was a declaration of where it’s going.

This sport is shedding its “niche water activity” skin and emerging as something bigger. The progression curve isn’t just steep; it’s nearly vertical. What was cutting-edge at this event will be standard by next year. What seemed impossible will be in tutorial videos by summer.

We’re watching a sport come of age in real-time, and events like this are the mile markers that prove it’s not just growing — it’s evolving.

For those of us who’ve been covering wake sports for years, this championship felt different. More polished but not sanitized. More professional but not corporate. More competitive but not cutthroat.

It felt like wakesurfing finally figured out its identity — and decided to turn that identity up to eleven.

The Final Word

The 2025 Centurion World Wake Surfing Championship delivered what great events always do: moments that’ll live longer than the medals. Performances that’ll inspire the next generation. And proof that when you combine world-class athletes with world-class equipment and a community that genuinely gives a damn, something magical happens.

Centurion didn’t just host a championship. They provided the stage for wakesurfing’s loudest statement yet:

We’re here. We’re progressing. And we’re just getting started.

Now, thanks to new product, leadership and Correct Craft company culture, innovation is running deeper than ever, into a re-imagination of the brand. Water sports enthusiasts are embracing boats for the world’s best waves, wakes and ride, as well as ambitious design and inspired craftsmanship. Time to re-imagine your ride.”

WWA WP Nationals

A large crowd was on hand to witness the brightest stars in wakepark compete during the penultimate day of competition at the 2016 Nautique WWA Wakepark National Championships. The National Points Chase qualified riders throughout the nation for their chance to showcase their incredible talent on world stage at the widely popular Orlando Watersports Complex (OWC). For the first time this week, wakepark riders began participating in their respective finals and national champions were crowned following the continuation of last weekends Nautique WWA U.S. Wakeboard National Championships behind the award-winning Super Air Nautique G23.

The morning kicked off with multiple divisions taking the water for their semifinals and last chance qualifiers, ultimately forcing riders to put it all on the line in order to capture a position and eligibility to compete in the final showdown. A handful of brilliant performances were thrown down off of the unique course design at OWC in the Pro Wakeboard semifinals. Pedro Caldas (OWC) took the win in Heat 1, while Guenther Oka (IND) led the way in Heat 2. Joe Battleday (JB Ski – GB) grabbed the third and final heat win of the day with a variety of technical flips and twists. Tomorrow’s finals are going to be filled with mind-blowing rides as the top qualifiers prepare to go head-to-head.

In the Amateur Wakeskate finals, there was no lack of effort to go huge and consistency was going to be one of the deciding factors for judge’s to determine the overall winner. Gavin Stuckey (OWC) repeatedly pulled off trick-after-trick using every obstacle the course had to offer and held on earn the national championship. A strong run by Trent Stuckey (OWC) helped him secure the runner-up position, narrowly edging out Brendon Thibodeau (Action), who rounded out the podium in third.

“Watching tonight’s awards in traditional cable riding was cool to see because they show where wakepark riding began for nearly all of its competitors,” said WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson. “As popular as the features only has become, it’s awesome that there are two equally definable disciplines for all ages in the sport.”

Beginner Wakeboard division hosts some of the newest athletes to the wakepark scene, however, there is no shortage of thrilling action as they shred across the parks ramps and railings. The highest score went to Beau Porter (Hexagon) who held down the number one position. Zach Montez (TSR) and Ashlyn Overland (Roseland) finished in the second and third spots, respectively. Battles raged in Novice Wakeboard as Barrett Swope (Wake Nation) and Samuel Lewis (Quest ATX) went all out for their chance to become crowned champion. In the end, Swope outdueled Lewis, while Jacob Johnson (Hydrous) landed on the box in third.

A star-studded field emerged for the Intermediate Wakeboard finals and the large crowd on hand lined the shoreline to catch the spectacular performances with one of the deepest fields in the sports history. Despite the stiff competition, Fynn Bullock Womble (Hexagon) nailed an impressive run to take the win, just ahead of Gavin Stuckey (OWC) in second. A hard-fought effort credited Gavin Giglio (OWC) with third. The Advanced Wakeboard finals featured some of the more experienced riders on the tour, which meant that technical tricks and massive air was guaranteed to be taking place. Trent Stuckey (OWC) stole the glory with his flashy style en route to the championship, followed by Spencer Baron (TSR) and Josh Harris (OWC) in second and third.

The fourth and final day of competition at the 2016 Nautique WWA U.S. Wakeboard National Championships took place on Saturday at the Dallas Landing Park as the world’s best riders competed behind the three-time wakeboard boat of the year, the Super Air Nautique G23 towboat. Gorgeous weather and perfect conditions on the water treated thousands of spectators along the shorelines to an epic showdown that witnessed champions crowned in the Pro Men, Pro Women, Jr. Pro Men and Pro Wakeskate divisions. The G23’s incredible wake and industry leading pull continued to elevate the sport as the star-studded lineup threw down massive hits throughout the afternoon.

Following yesterdays Pro Men’s division Quarterfinal qualifying, athletes resumed with their respective Semifinal Heats for a chance to earn a position in the final showdown. Italian Massi Piffaretti (ITA) led the way during Heat 1, while Nautique Rider Noah Flegel (USA) stole the glory and a transfer position in Heat 2. A stacked lineup filled the roster for Heat 3, but Tony Iaconni (AUS) prevailed with the highest score. The final Heat of the day watched Nautique Rider Mike Dowdy (USA) show exactly how far the Super Air Nautique G23 has taken the sport with an insane run heading into the finals.

When the Pro Men riders kicked off their Final runs of the weekend, fans littered the beach to watch the sports brightest stars uncork the biggest tricks of the entire weekend. Australian Tony Iaconni (AUS) emerged victorious by nailing his run with a variety of technical tricks, including a front blind mobe to score a 92.67. The runner-up position went to Nic Rapa (AUS), who rode consistently all day to score 88.67. Team Nautique Rider Noah Flegel (USA) performed spectacular behind the G23’s massive wake to secure the third and final podium spot.

“I’m so pumped to walk away with the win today at the U.S. National Championship,” said Tony Iaconni. “The entire field is absolutely stacked right now and there are so many talented riders when it comes down to the finals. This is one of my favorite stops of the season, which motivated me to give it everything I had and go huge for the crowd.”

The Pro Women entered the final day of competition determined to showcase their talent in front of a large crowd while competing behind the three-time boat of the year, Super Air Nautique G23. After a confidence inspiring performance in her qualifying run on Friday, Amber Wing (AUS) kept the momentum rolling as she landed big tricks to outduel the competition with an 86.67. Narrowly missing out on the victory, Team Nautique Rider Raimi Merritt (USA) recorded a near flawless run to earn a solid second place finish with a score of 81.67. Despite an intense battle for the final step on the podium, Nicola Butler (USA) nailed a strong run to beat out her competitors as judge’s awarded her with a 77.50.

“It’s an amazing feeling to come out on top with my sixth-career U.S. Wakeboard National Championship,” said Amber Wing. “All weekend the girls were performing brilliantly, forcing me to stay on my toes and step up my game. It was rad having all of the fans come out to enjoy the awesome weather and check out the action!”

Pro Wakeskate riders took full advantage of the G23’s perfectly formed wake to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Brian Grubb (USA) won in convincing fashion by displaying a remarkable run to grab the high score of 81.67. The battle for the final podium positions was at an all-time high, leaving riders forced to hold nothing back as they approached their final runs. Reed Hansen (USA) and Austin Polerock (USA) went head-to-head for the second and third positions, respectively at the U.S Wakeboard National.

The Jr. Pro Men (14-18) division boasted the youngest group of riders to compete on the day, while featuring a teaser of some of the sports up-and-coming future stars. A very determined Elliot Digney (AUS) landed the first-ever double flip in Jr. Pro Men’s competition, adding to the long list of ground breaking moments behind the Super Air Nautique G23, ultimately jumping to the top of the leaderboard and never looking back en route to the Finals win. Jake Pelot (USA) looked amazing all weekend keeping every trick stylish and clean to finish second, while Cobe France (AUS) overcame adversity earlier in the week to join his two rivals on the podium in third at the U.Swakeboard national.

Dedicated to progressing the sport from the ground up, the Nautique Wake Series puts riders first, developing the stars of tomorrow and showcasing the top athletes of today. The addition of the WWA Wakeboard World Championships provides athletes the perfect platform throughout the entire season with every major event held behind the Super Air Nautique G23 at the U.S wakeboard National.

Built a wakeskate winch and flew it up to a 5000′ lake with a Schweizer 300. Then grabbed 4 people with the Robinson R44 and flew back up there to try out the new winch. We had never tried the winch out on the water, and neither of us had ever tried wakeskating before. It was a new experience and completely untested. After working out a few kinks we got it to work.

I don’t think I can put into words what I felt the first time I got tugged up and was wakeboarding on a mountain top glacier lake. The water was 12 degrees Celsius. It was the oddest feeling of combining something that I had done many times like wakeboarding behind a boat, but doing it on a glacier lake at 5000′ in the middle of nowhere. Breathtaking wouldn’t even begin to do it justice. I yelled out “YA FREAKEN YA!!!” as I skimmed across the water. That about sums it all up. Something never to be forgotten that’s for sure.
