THE MANDURAH MAZDA ACTION SPORTS GAMES PRESENTED BY DRUG AWARE
WAKEBOARD TOURNAMENT SETS EQUAL PRIZE MONEY FOR MEN AND WOMEN

As part of developing equal opportunity for women, the Mandurah Mazda Action Sports Games presented by Drug Aware will introduce a professional women’s division in wakeboarding and skateboarding.

This is the first-time females will be back on the water in Mandurah since the IWWF World Cup in 2015 and this year’s event will offer equal prizemoney for both men and women.

Professional female Wakeboard competitor Mackenzie McCarthy said “It is so good to see Mandurah Action Sports Games including a women’s division this year, in conjunction with Wakeboard Australia and WA Wakeboarding recognising the value of equal prize money in both the men’s and women’s divisions. It’s great to be a part of an amazing event”

A newly created women’s division will also be included in the skateboard, scooter and BMX competition which will truly bring equality and diversity to these largely dominated male sports.

Shaun Jarvis, sports manager said, “moving the Action Sports Games back to Mandurah is really exciting and having the event at a world class skate park such as Mandurah gives us the opportunity to expand the skate, scooter and BMX comp over two days and we can now include a girls division”

The Action Sports arena has been predominately a male driven sport over the last 10 years however, that is slowly changing with more and more young girls showing up at skate parks and absolutely shredding the concrete and showing considerable talent.

Event Director Tim Thirsk said,  “I have always been a big fan of women in sports and over the last couple of years have seen quite a few girls taking part in training camps in both wakeboarding, skateboarding, scooter riding and BMX so its about time we created the opportunity for girls to compete in a division that they feel safe, comfortable and included” Thirsk went on, “I can’t wait to see the ladies take to the water and the skate park and showcase their respective talents”.

Originally the event had a big contingent of female wakeboarder coming from Queensland but unfortunately due to the current COVID quarantine restrictions they have had to cancel their fights and accommodation. However, NSW, Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania will field several female wakeboarders that will come to WA to compete.

The Mandurah Mazda Action Sports Games presented by Drug Aware will combine wakeboarding, freestyle motocross, skateboarding, BMX and scooter events into an action-packed weekend of extreme sports along with fantastic array of international foods.

On Saturday 10 of April, the new world class Mandurah Skate Park will host a major Headspace skateboard and scooter competition with hundreds of competitors from all over WA to compete for over $5000 in cash and prizes.

Plus, there will be some Australia’s best Freestyle Motocross rider such as Brayden Davies putting on an amazing aerial display of adrenalin pumping tricks in the Apex Radiology FMX demonstration. Brayden is pumped up to get back to Mandurah to light up the skies with his insane aerial tricks.

“ I am looking forward to riding Action Sports Games again it is one of my favourite events and have stuck around to put on a show for the people in Mandurah before I head over to the eastern state for a massive run of shows for Freestyle Kings”.

Sunday the 11 April, the Nautique West wakeboarding competition will be held on Mandjar Bay and with both men and women competing for equal prize money so it is going to be an exciting day on the water.

The Action Sports Games is a free event, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the event.

Hé bien J’ai 24 ans, originaire de Normandie j’habite maintenant au Mans, je pratique le skate depuis bientôt 10 ans, membre du team skateboard France (équipe de France) je voyage pas mal avec l’équipe pour les étapes de la WorldCup , et j’ai découvert le wakeskate au cours de la saison dernière …

Tout le monde en parle, tu skateras peut-être le park des JO 2020 à Tokyo. Quel est ton ressentiment ?

On n’y est pas encore, il faut passer les qualifications et savoir combien la France pourra envoyer de rider sur les JO… mais la fédération met tout en avant pour nous faire progresser et nous préparer au mieux possible et c’est plutôt cool !

After four succesful years in Mandurah the Action Sports Games will coming on the shores of Bunbury, Western Australia. Bunbery is an amazing city, with beautiful beaches, flanked by amazing inland waterway’s on the other side of the city. With a vibrant city lifestyle, fine restaurants, a world-class café strip and plenty of accommodation options, the city is the perfect setting for major sporting events, such as the Action Sports Games.

An event combining wakeboarding, freestyle motocross, skateboarding, BMX and scooter. Riders compete for a prize money of $22,000, which will maybe attract Australian’s best action sports stars to Bunbury.

The pristine waters of Koombana Bay will host a world-class wakeboard tournament sanctioned by Waterski and Wakeboard Australia. Drawn to prime seasonal conditions, some of the world’s best are set to call Bunbury home for the 3-day competition.

 “We are very fortunate to have access to funding through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Scheme and the City of Bunbury to kick start this awesome event,” said ASG Event Director Tim Thirsk. “Healthway, with support from the Local Drug Action Group, have also confirmed their involvement by taking up sponsorship for the naming rights to the event, which will not only allow us to promote the important drug aware message, but also with the extra funding it will go towards attracting world class athletes to Bunbury and Western Australia.”

From the fantastic waters of Koombana Bay, it is just a short walk to the intercity CBD where the Freestyle Motocross, Skate and BMX competitions will be will be held in conjunction with the Food Truck Fiesta. The long weekend in March is set be a celebration of youth sports, music and food.

Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said he was excited that a high calibre event such as the Action Sports Games would be held in Bunbury. “Events that bring such a diverse mix of sports and activities to our City are important for the social and economic fabric of our community,” Mr Brennan said. “Bunbury is rapidly becoming a location of choice for major events, which has been a major focus for the City, and we are sure everyone will welcome the competitors and spectators with open arms.”
This major event is set to become one of the richest wakeboarding events in Australia and given the fact that it is held right before the Moomba Masters in Victoria, it will attract a top field of world class wakeboarders, fantastic media and promote the vibrancy of the City of Bunbury.

Comment une skateuse se retrouve sur un wakeskate ? Et où ?

J’ignorer complètement l’existence de ce sport encore l’année dernière… À l’ouverture du Wakeparadise au Mans je suis allée voir, l’eau n’étant vraiment pas mon délire j’étais super réticente à l’idée d’essayer, je ne pensais pas y retourner puis j’ai croiser un wakeskate en partant, révélation totale ! Du coup j’y suis presque tous les jours…

As-tu retrouvé l’esprit du skate dans le wakeskate ?

Oui et non, on est très peu de pratiquant de wakeskate au Mans, donc difficile de motiver des riders à tomber avec toi de l’autre côté du lac pour essayer un tricks comme en skate sur un spot, c’est ce qui manque un peu… Mais sinon sur le wakepark l’ambiance est cool les copains Wakeux sont toujours là pour la motive et l’apéro ! Et on bouge de spot de temps en temps donc c’est cool il y quand même le bon esprit fraternel du ride !

Quel est le secret de ta réussite ?

La persévérance je dirai… le secret de n’importe quelle réussite !

Des projets pour les mois à venir ?

Oui, déjà je vais finir la tournée WorldCup skate et finir ma petite part de wakeskate, j’aimerai bien migrer vers un pays chaud cet hiver pour pouvoir rider un peu… à voir !

Bon d’accord, on s’éloigne un tout petit peu de notre domaine de prédilection, mais on ne pouvait pas laisser se terminer la semaine sans partager avec vous le dernier bijou de Palace Skateboards.

Ça fait un moment qu’on entend parler de la marque, cette fois c’est pour ce court métrage de 40 minutes. Le mois dernier, la team a été filmée sur leur nouveau park de couvert de Londres : MWADLANDS.

La marque nous met l’eau à la bouche depuis quelques mois avec des teasers plus fous les uns que les autres, maintenant place au spectacle.
