WWA WORLDS 2019

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO (September 19, 2019) –The World Wake Association (WWA) and Nautique Boats are proud to bring together the 2019 Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships and 2019 Nautique Wake Park World Championships for the largest global showdown in history. The Nautique Wakeboard and Wake Park World Championships presented by Rockstar Energy will head to the beautiful tropical oasis of the Mayan Water Complex in Playa del Carmen, Mexico October 17th– 20th.

Serving as the culminating stop to the Nautique Wake Series, WWA Wakeboard World Series, and WWA Wake Park World Series, an international field of riders from across the globe will compete for the 2019 World titles in all amateur and pro divisions of boat and cable disciplines. The Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships will be towed exclusively behind the 6x Boat of the Year, the Super Air Nautique G23, setting the perfect stage for athletes to deliver epic performances on the gorgeous turquoise waters known to the Mayan Water Complex. The Mayan Water Complex has proven to be a premier wake destination, with a world-class park fully-equipped to host the world’s top rider

In addition to recognizing the global achievements of the amateur and professional athletes this season, the event will host a special anniversary celebration of the WWA’s 30 Years of Wake on Saturday, October 19th at the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo hotel. The evening will recognize select forerunners and industry staples who were influential to the organization’s first five years of inception as part of the prelude to the amateur awards banquet. Families should be aware that anyone who is not competing in the competition or staying at the hotel will have to pay a fee to attend the evening activities and Saturday banquet.

“Bringing together the top athletes from across the globe for the 2019 Nautique WWA Wakeboard and Wake Park World Championships in the gorgeous backdrop of Mexico is going to be so special. This will truly be a season finale to remember and we encourage all interested riders and families to come be a part of history in the making.”

This weekend was hold the Munich Mash event 2019, for the first time ever, women participated in their own competition in front of a huge crowd of more than 10.000 spectators. Here is the review ! (Don’t miss the 2018 one)

80 000 visitors celebrate MASH 2019

“It was hot in every sense of the word. Top-class events, huge crowds of spectators braving the sun and an atmosphere that you almost only get here at MASH – what more could you want?,” smiled Marion Schöne, CEO of Olympic Park Munich, as she reflected on a successful MASH 2019.
From 28 to 30 June, 80,000 visitors flocked to the Olympic Park Munich to experience three days of action sports. “I am delighted that despite the heat so many people came here to the Olympic Park. With MASH, we and our partners have once again touched a nerve. I am particularly pleased that the women’s events proved so popular with the crowd.”

Wakeboarding, skating, BMX, dancing, shopping, admiring, listening to music and chilling – the MASH Fest was a celebration of everything that makes the action sports scene so special. Around 100 stands offered visitors all manner of fun and entertainment. “I am convinced that it is this mix of high-class contests and the MASH Fest that makes the event so popular and successful,” said Marion Schöne. This year once again the MASH Fest was a central meeting point for people of all ages and interests with its interactive zones, music, art, culture and infotainment.

Julia Rick

She came to win – and she certainly didn’t disappoint. Germany‘s Julia Rick won the first Wakeboard Park Women‘s Contest at the Olympic Park in front of 10,000 fans. Things remained exciting right up until the end, with America’s Anna Nikstad leading the way in the standings until Rick’s final run. The nine-time world champion rose to the challenge and threw down a Toeside Backside 720 on the big kicker, combining this banger trick with a clean run over the other obstacles to push Anna Nikstad off top spot. “I am so happy to have won here. The contest here is really special and the park is technical and challenging to ride,” commented the 26 year-old. Third spot went to Mary Rougier (France).

Dominik Hernler

“What a weekend,” smiled Wakeboard Park Men’s Contest winner Dominik Hernler, who won the event for the second time after triumphing in 2016. Unlike in the women’s event, the Austrian claimed victory with his first run on the course in Munich. Second place went to Liam Peacock (UK) and third to John Dreiling (USA). “I had something up my sleeve for the second run, but in the end I didn’t need it,” commented 27-year-old Hernler. “The whole MASH weekend was insane,” said Jascha Wronka, who was in charge of the Wakeboard Park Contest. “The fans could see even more different tricks in even more different varieties than last year thanks to the new set-up.” He was also pleased with the success of the inaugural Team Contest, which the team of John Dreiling (USA), Anna Nikstad (USA) and Liam Peacock (UK) won on Friday.

Last year, we had covered the wake2el event in 2018 . Last weekend the event was hosted once more for 2019 season.

Wake 2el

On June 15, a huge crowd of wakeboarding enthusiasts gathered at 313 Cable Park on the seaside of Lithuania. Globally acclaimed athletes from fifteen countries came together for the Red Bull Wake2el. The event, carried out for the fifth year in a row, has quickly grown from a local to an international level, attracting the attention of such stars like Szebasztian Szolath (Hungary), Dominik Guehrs (Germany), Pedro Cald (Brazil), James Windsor (Australia) and Liam Peacock (UK).

Red Bull Wake2el stands out from other major world competitions with its format. Lots are drawn the day before the event splitting the participants in pairs. Pairs then battle against each other. Winners pass to the next stage. And so on until only one remains. The duel format makes the race very intense and, at the same time, unpredictable, because the starting pairs can determine the course of the race.

Champions

The event saw a total 12 female athletes. After a couple of hours of impressive tricks, Marry Rougier from France proved to be the best-performing female athlete. Lisa Baloo from Russia came second, and Mari-Liis Simon from Estonia came third.

The male group was twice larger with 24 athletes. It was possible to see the stars of the waking world like Szebasztian Szolath (Hungary), Dominik Guehrs (Germany), Pedro Cald (Brazil), James Windsor (Australia) or Liam Peacock (UK). After 21 duels and one final three-stage battle, Liam Peacock from the United Kingdom won the 2019 male category. German Christopher Klein came second, while Albin Randow from Sweden came third.
