The event expected of all the best female and male wakeboarders in the world, LAO Langenfeld Open presented by ONeill, is back on Wasserski Langenfeld’s huge spot.

The riders will compete for a cash price of US$10,000 on May 18, 2019 and the final will take place at 3pm.

“The unmatched success of the LANGENFELD OPEN presented by O´Neill left a mark in the worldwide wakeboard scene. Many riders asked for a new edition of the LANGENFELD OPEN presented by O´Neill.
The key feature of the LANGENFELD OPEN presented by O´Neill will be once again the distinctive course setup. Going down at cable 1, one run is limited to half a lap.
Several sections are going to be modified with extraordinary feature-hacks and combined with wave breakers.
O´Neill will be once again the presenting sponsor. This year Nissan, who are supporting the german wakeboard scene for a while now, will be sponsor as well.
The exact format, rules and entry regulations will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

TAKE A CHANCE

This trip started six months ago when I traveled to the States to compete on Points Chase as the only rider representing Brazil. I met the Mexican crew having breakfast at the hotel, we hit it off right away and they invited me to be part of their team. I ended up finding that they own a world class cable park in the Mexican Caribbean (two full sizes, one 2.0, and a boat lake). Without hesitating I flew back to Brazil, packed some stuff and went straight to Cancun to shred one month at Mayan Water Complex.

My connection with Mexico was very strong from the beginning: I fell in love with their culture, their food, the stunning nature and of course… the wakeboarding. But above all things, just like any memorable trip, the best part is making new friends. One of them is Argentinean Fede Barcia a.k.a @thewakephotographer, with whom we shoot these photo sessions that we hope you like.

The Mayan Riviera showed me much more than just a wakeboard spot. It also gave me the chance to visit unreal places with the coolest people (buena onda vatos!). From crystalline waters in Bacalar, Tulum’s amazing vibe, cenotes all over the place or snorkeling with whale sharks in the off season. Undoubtedly it is a place to be known by everyone that wants to wakeboard and have a good time.

To finish this trip with a golden touch I was invited by a friend Lorena Vergara to wakeboard in “Pueblo Magico”of Bacalar. The crystal water of the lagoon of seven colors at the wake of the G21 make this the perfect context for the session . We stayed there 3 days riding a lot and having fun.

When I bought my ticket to the States I never expected all those upcoming events. I think life is magical and sometimes you have to take a chance on the unknown to experience new adventures. After two months in Brazil, I’m preparing my luggage to return to the Mayan Riviera, where I will spend all year training at Mayan Water Complex and living intensively off this paradise on a daily basis.

“It is in 1923 that the O’Neill family’s second child, and first boy, Jack, came into the world in Los Angeles, CA. No “big waves” during this casual life of an american kid during the Great Depression, until 1934. This first day of bodysurfing in Santa Monica has then become Jack’s second birth date. The day he discovered his true passion, leading him to what he became today. Indeed, few years later, after having tried several jobs and launched a couple of businesses, Jack started creating history by opening the very first surf shop ever in 1952, in San Francisco. I’m stoked, we made it! Our wakeboard wave pool action clip is in the books! When I saw the full movie for the first time, I got GOOSE BUMPS. I’m so proud that we managed it, even though so much went wrong. First my crash, where I hurt myself.

Then my son got sick and had to go to the hospital.

Finally, the norovirus got me and almost the entire TEAM PLAYGROUND crew. The whole project was in danger. I’m so glad that I can show you this wicked wakeboard action clip from the surf park and so stoked that we have done in Surf Snowdonia in Wales, what nobody else did before. It is a real wakeboard world premiere. Share this piece and comment, what our next big video project should be.
