Inthis spectacular video, shot in the iconic resorts of Serre-Chevalier, Courchevel, Montgenèvre and Val Thorens, Jules leaves his usualplayground behind to explore snowy and icy landscapes.Pulled by a winch, he turns the mountains into a gigantic natural cablepark. Between frozen rivers, ski slopes, iced-over lakes, boardercrosstracks and chairlifts, wakeboarding becomes a fully fledged winter sport.

In this video, Jules Charraud strings together never-before-seen sequences where every shot defies gravity and imagination. He slaloms between skiers on the slopes, takes on snowboarders on a boardercross course, jumps over a cross‑country skier, cuts right through a hockey game on ice, and even soars over snowy walkways several metres above the Lac de la Rosière.

With a wakeboard specially designed for the occasion, he even rides up a slope, weaving between giant slalom gates, showcasing flawless technique and boundless creativity. As unexpected as they are impressive, these images invite us to rethink sliding sports by tearing down the barriers between water, snow and ice.

Chengdu, China – History was made last week at the brand-new Panda Wakepark cable, purpose-built for The World Games. Selected based on their world rankings and victories in major competitions, the planet’s top wakeboarders gathered for a long-awaited showdown — and it was Germany’s Julia Rick who stole the spotlight on the Open women division .

The Return of Cable Wakeboarding to The World Games

It had been twenty years since cable wakeboarding last featured at The World Games, with its only appearance in Duisburg, Germany, back in 2005. Known as a multi-sport event for disciplines outside the Olympic and Paralympic programs, The World Games first took place in 1981 in the United States, offering athletes from non-Olympic sports a global stage.

In 2005, four waterski and wakeboard disciplines were on the schedule: Barefoot, Boat Wakeboard, Cable Wakeboard, and Overall Waterski. Back then, Denise De Haan (NED) claimed gold in the women’s cable event, with Kirsten-Brigitte Leifel (GER) and Pauline Dyrschka (GER) rounding out the podium.

Julia Rick Reclaims Her Throne

Fast forward to 2025, and the sport has evolved into a high-powered spectacle, with athletes pushing the limits of what’s possible on a cable. In the women’s division, all eyes were on Julia Rick — the multiple-time world champion and global icon of women’s wakeboarding.

After narrowly missing gold at the World Championships in Paris last September, Rick came to Chengdu with one mission: to win. She delivered under pressure, combining flawless execution with her trademark technical mastery to secure the top step of the podium.

“I’ve been dreaming about this moment since Paris,” said Rick after her victory. “To win gold here, at The World Games, with the world watching, is just incredible.”

Italian rising star Vanessa Titarelli claimed silver, proving once again she’s a serious contender for the sport’s future. Bronze went to the Netherlands’ Sanne Meijer, the reigning Cable World Champion, who also competed in the boat wakeboard event earlier in the week.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – December 4, 2023: Brian Grubb, the American Wakeskating pioneer and three-time world champion, has accomplished an unprecedented feat in an innovative project that merged drone Wakeskating and BASE jumping. Perched atop the sky bridge at Dubai’s Address Beach Resort, the Guinness World Record-holding infinity pool sits an astonishing 294 meters above sea level.

Grubb’s audacious journey commenced with a 94-meter wakeskating glide across the rooftop pool, towed by a drone, followed by a leap over the pool’s edge. This seamlessly transitioned into a thrilling 77-story BASE jump, culminating in a successful landing at the beach below. This groundbreaking achievement, known as “WakeBASE,” brought Grubb’s seven-year-old dream to fruition, marking a historic milestone. Here’s a comprehensive overview:

1. Unparalleled Challenge: The WakeBASE project presented an unparalleled challenge for Brian Grubb, renowned for wakeskating in unique locations worldwide, including Jordan’s Wadi al-Hidan canyon, Cape Cod’s icebergs, and Türkiye’s Cleopatra Pool. The combination of Wakeskating and BASE jumping had never been attempted before, and Grubb was determined to be the pioneer.
2. Seven-Year Dream: Grubb expressed his motivation, stating, “I wanted to be the first person to do a combination of Wakeskating switch into BASE jump and push myself to the highest level in my sports. I’ve had this idea for seven years, and not a day goes by when I’m not thinking about it.”
3. Meticulous Preparation: Grubb enlisted the expertise of Miles Daisher, a renowned BASE jump legend, to design a rigorous training program. With over 4,500 BASE jumps to his name, Daisher focused on building Grubb’s skills, recognizing the need for extensive training due to Grubb’s limited 26 BASE jumps by December 2022.
4. Training Locations: The duo trained at Daisher’s facility in Idaho, USA, mastering exit points ranging from 106m to 121m. Subsequently, they moved to Lauterbrunen, Switzerland, known for being a BASE jump haven, tackling exit points, including the challenging High Ultimate at 305m. Grubb accrued 106 BASE jumps under Daisher’s guidance.
5. Partnership with Prada: In collaboration with Prada, Grubb donned custom Prada Linea Rossa performance gear, specially optimized for both Wakeskating and BASE jumping. The gear included shoes designed for optimal grip on the custom Prada Linea Rossa Wake Skate.
6. Drone Development: Drone developer Sebastian Stare and his team custom-engineered a drone tailored for WakeBASE. Stare explained that the drone’s unique features, from hardware components to software, were designed to enhance flight behavior for Wakeskate moves, with insights from Brian himself.
7. Culmination of Passion: Grubb’s WakeBASE project represents the culmination of over 20 years of Wakeskating and 15 years of skydiving, blending his two greatest passions seamlessly.
8. Ideal Location: Grubb highlighted the significance of the chosen location, the Address Beach Resort in Dubai, with the world’s highest invisible edge pool. The building’s setup, pool curvature, and expansive beach landing area perfectly suited the unique requirements of the project.

– On the unique location, Grubb concluded: “When we got this idea we looked for high water and there’s not much out there. Then we saw the Address Beach Resort in Dubai with the highest invisible edge pool in the world and we had to come take a look at it. The building is set up for us, the way the pool curves is perfect for me as I’m right foot forward and the shape is what we needed for the ramp and then there’s this nice big landing area on the beach. As soon as we got eyes on it in person, we knew it was on and that’s when the real mission started.”

Welcome to Perth Wake Park

Perth Wake Park is the only cable wake board park in Western Australia.

It is conveniently located 30 minutes south of Perth City at the Mundijong Rd, Freeway exit.

The Park has a full size main cable, two beginner specific cables, a NEW bar, a café, pro shop, hire shop and a large veranda overlooking the action.

Bookings are not required to ride at the park during general opening hours. We run cable wakeboarding introduction sessions on our specific beginner systems and we have a Main Lake filled with obstacles for the advanced riders to enjoy.

We offer a range of different tickets to suit you, from hourly and daily tickets to full memberships to maximise your time on the water. Bring your own gear or just bring your board shorts or bikini, all the gear can be hired at the park and basic equipment is included in your ticket price. Wakeboarder Jules Charraud took advantage of the return of sunny days to take his followers around France. On his wakeboard, he rides the most beautiful tricolor landscapes that he has compiled in 3 videos available on Redbull France Instagram Channel

The 21-year-old from Toulouse left to tour the most beautiful French landscapes, to make three videos, titled Tours and Detours, posted on social networks. Jules Charraud using his portable winch, went to discover French heritage, to ride on the Seine, to the Château de Chantilly via Mont-Saint-Michel. “I really wanted to do a big project with this concept of wakeboarding in somewhat unusual places,” explains the Toulouse resident. The goal is to show people around France in a different way. ”

Exceptional spots

From the foot of the Eiffel Tower in the middle of the salt marshes, the favorite spot of the French wakeboarder on his “Tour de France”, was the Château de Chantilly. “It was really magical, the setting is incredible,” says Jules Charraud. They spent the day there and they took pictures from right to left, they were never bored. A representative of the castle followed us and advised us on the site. Big thanks to him that I was able to ride in the moat. ”

The project required a lot of upstream work from the wakeboarder and his team, especially for the selection of places. For the spots, two criteria: visual and aesthetic spots and performance spots, but it is still necessary to succeed in obtaining all the authorizations. “It’s a must, it would be a shame to make pirate spots for the end not to be able to post the video,” explains Jules. But in general we didn’t have too many difficulties, for example in Romorantin, the mayor only asked us to “watch out for the ducks! “
