CWC Wakepark , Resurgence with Graeme Burress and friends!

Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC): A Wakeboarding Paradise in Pili, Philippines

CWC Wakepark Resurgence 2024: Nestled in the heart of the Bicol region, the Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC) in Pili, Philippines, is a premier destination for wakeboarding enthusiasts from around the globe. Since its inception, CWC has grown to become a vital hub for cable wakeboarding, attracting both professional athletes and amateurs eager to experience its world-class facilities. This article delves into the history, significance, and impact of CWC on the global wakeboarding scene, while also celebrating the individuals who have played key roles in keeping this iconic sports complex thriving.

The Birth of a Wakeboarding Mecca

CWC was established with the vision of promoting tourism in the province of Camarines Sur, with a specific focus on water sports. The brainchild of former Governor Luis Raymund “Lray” Villafuerte Jr., CWC opened its doors in 2006. The goal was to create a facility that could compete on an international level, offering top-notch amenities for both casual visitors and professional wakeboarders. What started as a bold vision quickly became a reality, transforming a once quiet town into a bustling center of activity and a beacon for sports tourism in the Philippines.

World-Class Facilities and Offerings

The Camsur Watersports Complex is renowned for its state-of-the-art cable park, which is considered one of the best in the world. The complex features a six-point cable system, which allows wakeboarders to practice and perform tricks with ease. The park is designed to cater to all skill levels, from beginners taking their first ride to seasoned professionals looking to hone their craft.

In addition to wakeboarding, CWC offers a variety of other water sports, including wakeskating, water skiing, and knee boarding. The complex also boasts a number of additional amenities, such as a pro shop, dining facilities, and accommodations ranging from budget-friendly cabins to luxury villas. The scenic backdrop of Mount Isarog and the surrounding greenery further enhances the overall experience, making CWC not just a sports complex but a complete vacation destination.

A Hub for International Competitions

CWC’s reputation as a top-tier wakeboarding venue has led to its selection as the host for numerous international competitions. The complex has hosted events such as the World Wakeboarding Championships and the International Wakeboarding and Waterski Federation (IWWF) World Cup. These events have drawn athletes from around the world, further cementing CWC’s status as a key player in the global wakeboarding community.

One of the most significant aspects of these competitions is the exposure they provide for Filipino athletes. CWC has become a training ground for local wakeboarders, giving them the opportunity to compete against some of the best in the world on home turf. This has led to a growing interest in the sport within the Philippines, with more young people taking up wakeboarding as a serious pursuit.

Celebrating the Athletes and Visionaries with this new Opus

CWC has been graced by the presence of some of the biggest names in wakeboarding. Among these are Graeme Burress, JB O’Neill, Ile Vegni, Sam Dehaan, and Konni Lehndorff. These athletes have not only showcased their incredible skills at CWC but have also helped elevate the complex’s profile through their participation in events and their promotion of the facility on social media and other platforms.

Graeme Burress, known for his daring tricks and innovative riding style, has been a frequent visitor to CWC. His performances at the complex have left lasting impressions on both spectators and fellow athletes alike. JB O’Neill, another prominent figure in the wakeboarding world, has also been instrumental in highlighting CWC’s offerings through his widely-followed online presence.

The contributions of these athletes are matched by the dedication of the individuals who have kept CWC thriving. The Villafuerte family, led by Lray Villafuerte, along with his sons Migz and Luigi, have been pivotal in maintaining and expanding the complex. Their commitment to the facility and to the promotion of wakeboarding in the Philippines has been unwavering. Through their efforts, CWC has not only survived but thrived, continuing to attract visitors and athletes from all corners of the globe.

The Future of CWC

As CWC approaches nearly two decades of operation, it shows no signs of slowing down. The complex continues to evolve, with plans for further expansion and the addition of new facilities to enhance the visitor experience. The ongoing support from the Villafuerte family ensures that CWC will remain a key player in the world of wakeboarding for years to come.

The future of CWC also lies in its ability to inspire the next generation of wakeboarders. With the increasing popularity of the sport in the Philippines, CWC is poised to become a breeding ground for new talent. The complex’s role in hosting competitions and providing top-notch training facilities will undoubtedly contribute to the development of more world-class Filipino wakeboarders.

WHAT’S WKBND ?

WKBND (Wakebound) it’s OUTBND’s First-ever physical event. OUTBND’s Goal since the beginning was to create amazing experiences for its users: as a lifestyle+tech company, we believe running a physical competition is an amazing opportunity to create hybrid events and keep the community excited. What do we mean by Hybrid? Well WKBND is a Head to Head wakeboard competition, where athletes will compete to decide who’s the best athlete, BUT as they compete in the physical world they’ll have a digital contest through OUTBND’s challenge feature, where wakeboarders from all around the world will be the judges! We wanted WAKEBND to be “open” to everyone, which is why we have no age limit and we took out air tricks, which can sometimes be a barrier to entry. We wanted to create an event where people had to push behind the “boundaries” of their wakeboarding.

WHY TURIN WAKEPARK ?

Having to create an event like WKBND means having one of a kind wake park with features that allow athletes to really push their limits: No park in Italy does that better than Turin Wakepark, with among other features, the biggest (stationary) Snowramp in the World and an amazing wallride transition, both custom-built! But it’s never just about the race: it’s about people and the environment! We wanted to have a place where we could fully express the spirit of OUTBND and Turin Wakepark was the perfect spot to have a killer competition and entertain the community, allowing riders and spectators to enjoy the event at its best!

WHAT’S OUTBND?

OUTBND is the Social Network made by action sports lovers for action sports lovers. We allow Adrenaline Junkies to share their passion and compete with one another, while providing businesses a way to create a meaningful conversation with their clients. In a world governed by a “like model”, content becomes redundant and the need to go viral pushes people to literally follow trends or do crazy things. By using the platform, users will only see content within sports categories of their choosing, allowing them to spend less time looking for content and more time doing what they love. By creating the “challenge feature” we made it easier for people to share content around specific topics. This translates into more easily targeted interactions for businesses, who can use the same feature to run giveaways to sponsor their products or to embed the content of a challenge onto their website. Our motto is “Ride.Share.Repeat.” and that is because our integration with other platforms makes it easier to share, redirect or import from them, reducing the time an athlete needs to spend managing multiple profiles

IWWF World #1 Ranked Male & Female Riders from Germany Take IWWF Jordan Ayla Cable Wakeboard World Cup Titles

Conditions were once again ideal for the final day of the 48th IWWF World Cup stop, the IWWF Jordan Ayla Cable Wakeboard World Cup, at the Ayla Cable Wake Park in Aqaba, Jordan.
16 Open Men in the semi-finals were split into two groups to compete for the eight places in the final with the best four from each group advancing.

Miles Toller (GER), Pedro Caldas (BRA) and Sam de Haan (NED) improved on their first-round scores to secure their positions in the final whilst Liam Peacock (GBR) just fell short with his improved second pass losing out to Sebastian Dunn (AUS).
In the second semi-final, first off the dock Ariano Blanik (GER) set the benchmark with a Pete Rose 540 and a score of 70.00. Koki Toyoshima (JPN), Hamid Khodsiani (IRN) and Riccardo de Tollis (ITA) all improved on their first-round scores but not sufficiently to threaten the leaders. IWWF Junior World Champion in Mexico, Oliver Orban (HUN), Ariano Blaniik (GER) Dominik Gohrs (GER) and Louis Mistaudy (FRA) all advanced into the finals.

First rider in the Women’s Open final was Courtney Angus (AUS) who wowed the crowd with a clear pass including a 360 Transfer off the fun box. Only Julia Rick (GER), last of the dock in the final, was able to top Courtney’s score with a Backside 540 off the kicker, 90210 and 313 and, despite failing to complete her last trick, took the lead.
Only Steph Caller (GBR) was unable to improve on her first-round score, but it was Maxine Sapulette (NED), Courtney Angus (AUS) and Julia Rick (GER) who finished on the podium in 3rd, 2nd and 1st place respectively.

In the men’s finals Dominik Guhrs (GER) had a great ride including a Backside 720, a big air KGB, and a 315. Initially only Pedro Caldas (BRA) failed to improve on his first-round score. Louis Mistaudy (FRA) with a Toeside Blind Judge, a big air KGB and finishing with a Backside 720 off the kicker jumped into 2nd place. Ariano Blanik (GER) then blew everyone away opening up his run with a toeside backside 900 and landing a Double Half Cab Roll to take the lead. By then lying in 2nd place, and last off the dock, Dominik Guhrs (GER) fell early conceding victory to his fellow countryman Ariano Blanik.

The event was honoured to be attended by his Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee who presented the trophies and cheques to the winners:

Women’s Open
1st – Julia Rick (GER)
2nd – Courtney Angus (AUS)
3rd – Maxine Sapulette (NED)

Men’s Open
1st – Ariano Blanik (GER)
2nd – Dominik Guhrs (GER)
3rd – Louis Mistaudy (FRA)

IWWF President, Jose Antonio Perez Priego, thanked his Royal Highness, the hosts Ayla, the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), the sponsors, the volunteers and riders and officials for making the event such a great success. At the same time a letter of co-operation was signed between Ayla, the Jordan Olympic Committee and IWWF for the development of towed water sports in Jordan.

“There was a mountain river on the site of our future wake park. We built a dam and made a lake.

We had to broaden the lake and even to explode a part of the rock in order to build a large winch for the wakeboard cable system.

Unlike most of wake parks, our park is located in the mountains. It means that the surface of water is always smooth because the lake is surrounded by the hills. And the water is fresh, pure and even drinkable. Though it is dark because of the fine rocks in the lake.

Enjoy free wakeboarding and flowriding sessions right next to the Kremlin and the State Historical Museum of Moscow

On 25 August 2017, as part of the celebration of the upcoming City Day, Muscovites will have the opportunity to try their hand at extreme sports at special venues just 30 meters from Kilometer Zero.

Those willing to try flowriding will be able to do so thanks to the Artificial Wave in Manezhnaya Square, and those interested in wakeboarding will be excited to find a wake park in Revolution Square that is made up of two 1 m deep pools (25 m and 50 m in length) with a total volume of around 1,000 t.

The leading riders in the world will take part in a number of spectacular events, exciting performances and competitions hosted by the venues. In addition, anyone aged from 12 to 60 (children under 18 only allowed under adult supervision) will be able to take part in training sessions led by professional instructors and riders.

The venues have everything to ensure visitors’ safety and comfort on the water: warm changing rooms, wetsuit rental, boards, vests and helmets. The venues will also have special lighting for nighttime riding.

You can sign up for a free training session at https://cityday.moscow/

Registration starts on 25 August, and the venues will stay open until 9 October.

Flowriding master classes allow for six people at a time, wakeboarding sessions – up to four. Each session lasts for an hour.

WAKE PARK

The park stands on a special platform and consists of two 11 m wide pools that are connected by 8 jibbing elements for riders to trick their way between the pools.

From 1 to 3 September, the venues will host a special program for schoolchildren.

On 8 and 9 September, riders will be able to take part in an international wakeboarding competition. Registration is now open at https://wakebase.ru/

Qualifying rounds will take place on 8 September, followed by the semi-finals and the final round on 9 September. The prize money is made up of sponsor contributions and amounts to RUB 600,000. The judging panel will consist of professional riders.

On 10 September, spectators will have a chance to enjoy some freeriding as part of a Jam Session and marvel at a dazzling performance by acclaimed riders, including Sam de Haan, the number one ranked wakeboarder in the world, as well as Ian Curry and Dominik Gührs. These world-renowned professionals will be showing off their skills the entire day – from 10 am to 10 pm.

Check out the edit of Nikita Terskov and his friends
riding the park on #unleashedwakemag

FLOWRIDING

The Artificial Wave in Manezhnaya Square will be a perfect learning tool for those who have little surfing experience. The wave machine works as follows: it shoots water at an inclined surface to create an “ocean wave” for flowboarders, who ride the wave by keeping their balance.

On 2 and 3 September, to mark the start of the academic year, the venues will offer interactive master classes and a breathtaking show with professional riders.

On the days of the City Day celebration (9 and 10 September), professional riders will treat the public to demonstrations of their excellent flowboard and bodyboard skills.
