WAKEBOARD TOURNAMENT SETS EQUAL PRIZE MONEY FOR MEN AND WOMEN

As part of developing equal opportunity for women, the Mandurah Mazda Action Sports Games presented by Drug Aware will introduce a professional women’s division in wakeboarding and skateboarding.

This is the first-time females will be back on the water in Mandurah since the IWWF World Cup in 2015 and this year’s event will offer equal prizemoney for both men and women.

Professional female Wakeboard competitor Mackenzie McCarthy said “It is so good to see Mandurah Action Sports Games including a women’s division this year, in conjunction with Wakeboard Australia and WA Wakeboarding recognising the value of equal prize money in both the men’s and women’s divisions. It’s great to be a part of an amazing event”

A newly created women’s division will also be included in the skateboard, scooter and BMX competition which will truly bring equality and diversity to these largely dominated male sports.

Shaun Jarvis, sports manager said, “moving the Action Sports Games back to Mandurah is really exciting and having the event at a world class skate park such as Mandurah gives us the opportunity to expand the skate, scooter and BMX comp over two days and we can now include a girls division”

The Action Sports arena has been predominately a male driven sport over the last 10 years however, that is slowly changing with more and more young girls showing up at skate parks and absolutely shredding the concrete and showing considerable talent.

Event Director Tim Thirsk said,  “I have always been a big fan of women in sports and over the last couple of years have seen quite a few girls taking part in training camps in both wakeboarding, skateboarding, scooter riding and BMX so its about time we created the opportunity for girls to compete in a division that they feel safe, comfortable and included” Thirsk went on, “I can’t wait to see the ladies take to the water and the skate park and showcase their respective talents”.

Originally the event had a big contingent of female wakeboarder coming from Queensland but unfortunately due to the current COVID quarantine restrictions they have had to cancel their fights and accommodation. However, NSW, Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania will field several female wakeboarders that will come to WA to compete.

The Mandurah Mazda Action Sports Games presented by Drug Aware will combine wakeboarding, freestyle motocross, skateboarding, BMX and scooter events into an action-packed weekend of extreme sports along with fantastic array of international foods.

On Saturday 10 of April, the new world class Mandurah Skate Park will host a major Headspace skateboard and scooter competition with hundreds of competitors from all over WA to compete for over $5000 in cash and prizes.

Plus, there will be some Australia’s best Freestyle Motocross rider such as Brayden Davies putting on an amazing aerial display of adrenalin pumping tricks in the Apex Radiology FMX demonstration. Brayden is pumped up to get back to Mandurah to light up the skies with his insane aerial tricks.

“ I am looking forward to riding Action Sports Games again it is one of my favourite events and have stuck around to put on a show for the people in Mandurah before I head over to the eastern state for a massive run of shows for Freestyle Kings”.

Sunday the 11 April, the Nautique West wakeboarding competition will be held on Mandjar Bay and with both men and women competing for equal prize money so it is going to be an exciting day on the water.

The Action Sports Games is a free event, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the event.

Le wakeboard ou le ski nautique au fullsize  est tout simplement amusant ! Grâce au partenariat étroit avec Unit Parktech, le Beaver Creek Wake Park est très moderne. Les ponts de retour raccourcissent le temps de nage après une chute et – en combinaison avec les brise-lames Unit – calment l’eau. Cela profite aussi bien aux débutants qu’aux amateurs de sports nautiques avancés. Bien sûr, les débutants ou les passionnés de ski nautique peuvent aussi apprendre dans notre wakepark.

Location d’équipement moderne avec des combinaisons courtes et longues en néoprène, différentes planches (easy up, easy ride, pro), ski nautique, kneeboard, casque et gilets de sauvetage sont disponibles. Les animateurs sympathiques vous aideront surtout lors de vos premiers essais de départ, mais aussi lors de l’apprentissage de nouveaux tricks. Pendant les vacances d’été, il y a des Kids-Camps et des camps thématiques (informations actuelles et dates sur notre page Facebook).

Le Fullsize-Cable est ouvert tous les jours de mai à début septembre de 13h à 20h pour un usage public. Le matin (08h30 à 13h00) les groupes (jusqu’à 30 personnes) peuvent louer le téléphérique en privé.

Beaver Creek wakepark

Wakeboarding or waterskiing at the Fullsize Cable is simply fun! Due to the close partnership with Unit Parktech the Beaver Creek Wake Park is very modern. Return bridges shorten the swimming time after a fall and – in combination with Unit breakwaters – calm the water. This benefits beginners and advanced water sports enthusiasts alike. Of course, beginners or passionate water skiers can also go water skiing with us.

Modern rental equipment with short and long neoprene suits, various wakeboards (easy up, easy ride, pro), water ski, kneeboard, helmet and impact vests are available. The friendly lifters will especially help you with your first attempts at starting, but also with learning new tricks. During the summer holidays there are Kids-Camps and themed camps (current information and dates on our Facebook page).

The Fullsize-Cable is open daily from May to the beginning of September from 13h to 20h for public use. In the morning (08h30 to 13h00) groups (up to 30 persons) can rent the cable car privately.

Wake 2el

On June 15, a huge crowd of wakeboarding enthusiasts gathered at 313 Cable Park on the seaside of Lithuania. Globally acclaimed athletes from fifteen countries came together for the Red Bull Wake2el. The event, carried out for the fifth year in a row, has quickly grown from a local to an international level, attracting the attention of such stars like Szebasztian Szolath (Hungary), Dominik Guehrs (Germany), Pedro Cald (Brazil), James Windsor (Australia) and Liam Peacock (UK).

Red Bull Wake2el stands out from other major world competitions with its format. Lots are drawn the day before the event splitting the participants in pairs. Pairs then battle against each other. Winners pass to the next stage. And so on until only one remains. The duel format makes the race very intense and, at the same time, unpredictable, because the starting pairs can determine the course of the race.

Champions

The event saw a total 12 female athletes. After a couple of hours of impressive tricks, Marry Rougier from France proved to be the best-performing female athlete. Lisa Baloo from Russia came second, and Mari-Liis Simon from Estonia came third.

The male group was twice larger with 24 athletes. It was possible to see the stars of the waking world like Szebasztian Szolath (Hungary), Dominik Guehrs (Germany), Pedro Cald (Brazil), James Windsor (Australia) or Liam Peacock (UK). After 21 duels and one final three-stage battle, Liam Peacock from the United Kingdom won the 2019 male category. German Christopher Klein came second, while Albin Randow from Sweden came third.

Double champion du monde wakesurf en 2017, depuis il a créé l’école Fitwake et organise des camps de wakesurf dans le monde entier afin de partager sa passion et de faire grandir le sport. Après s’être entraîné avec certains des plus grands athlètes du monde, il a développé ses propres méthodes d’enseignement. Il se concentre sur la concentration du corps et de l’esprit sur le jeu et prépare à affronter les meilleurs. Il a été le premier Européen à rejoindre le team de Wakesurf US, INLAND SURFER. Aujourd’hui il est fier de pouvoir rider et aider une marque de Wakesurf comme Phase 5. Il a commencé le wakesurf en 2009 après avoir luxé ses épaules en wakeboard.

Une décision publique

Pour le département donc, cette exploitation du territoire pendant plus de vingt années équivaut à une privatisation du domaine. Ils veulent donc rendre cet endroit accessible à la concurrence avec un changement d’exploitant. Le Wake Sport Center doit donc quitter les lieux. Une fois ceci fait s’offre alors deux cas de figures : soit un appel à candidature pour un nouveau projet sera lancé soit la zone sera libre d’accès au public, sans infrastructures.

Gilles Mulhauser, directeur général de l’eau au département, parle de la fermeture du Wake Sport Center : “On a averti les usagers actuels qu’on allait procéder à un changement de pratique et mettre au concours le site…” regrette-t-il. Il reconnaît néanmoins que “la question du calendrier tombe relativement mal ” puisque la saison vient de commencer et de nombreux jeunes ne pourront pas pratiquer cet été.

Des manifestations pour protester

Cette décision du département a déçu la jeunesse de Genève qui ont manifesté à l’Hotel de Ville contre la fermeture de cet établissement. Les visages étaient attristés et le message simple : le site doit ouvrir à nouveau. Ces jeunes pratiquants de wakeboard ont décidé de réitérer la manifestation tous les mercredi tant que la réouverture n’est pas promise.

• Rendre accessible le wakeboard au plus grand nombre
• Des prix hyper attractifs pour les jeunes
• Organiser des événements pour assurer notre indépendance financière et la pérennité du Club
• Orgnaiser des compétitions locales, nationales et internationales
• Amener un soutien du public à notre sport
