Wakeboarding : a successful first participation to FISE World China

The second day of the FISE World Chengdu brought its share of emotions to the Chinese crowd with a great full day of competition. The day started under uncertain skies, but if there is one sport that isn’t bothered by a few raindrops, it is surely wakeboarding.

Today marked the first participation of the FISE’s only water sport in the Chinese stop of the FISE World Series. The wakeboarders, coming from as far as Australia, France and Spain, were clearly ready to shred the park set up, put together especially for the event, in the heart of Nan Hu Park in Chengdu, China.

The 8 riders taking part in the finals all showed not only impressive riding levels, but also a real motivation to make a good name for their sport. The park, with a pool gap, hand rails and a double-sided kicker, had all the elements necessary for the riders to be able to fully express their talent and style. Three runs for each riders gave everyone the chance to really give it all they’ve got while keeping everyone on the edge of their seat.

It’s the Australian James Windsor who took home the first place, after three impressive runs, riding with the power we know. His frontside 900 off the kicker on the way out and stylish nose press on the rail sure met the judges’ expectations in terms of amplitude, technicality, style and use of the whole park set up. Aaron Gunn, young but technical Australian rider, climbed on the second step of the podium with a technical and clean run, followed by the French Hugo Charbit in third place who performed clean runs with, amongst others, a stylish frontside 5.

These riders are definitely now part of the FISE history, bringing home the first wakeboard podium spots of the FISE World event in Chengdu. After this year’s success, we can be sure to see more riders coming over next year!
