SHOTA TEZUKA (JPN) WINS THE ACTION SPORTS GAMES PRO WAKEBOARD TOURNAMENT

Media release: 18 March 2019
Event Dates: 16 and 17 March 2019
Location: Koombana Bay and the CBD, Bunbury Western Australia

The six-man final saw seasoned professionals Nic Rapa (Hawksberry, NSW), Parker Seigle (Tanundra, SA) and Shota Tezuka (Shizuoka, Japan) take on the young guns Sam Brown (Thirlmere, NSW), Callan Starr (Ascot, WA) and Elliot Digney (Sydney, NSW).

Conditions on Koombana Bay, Bunbury Western Australia once again proved challenging at first but by 11am the wind dropped, and conditions improved.

Tournament Director Mike Hogarth called the Action Sports Games Pro Wakeboard Tournament on after a meeting with the riders. “Water conditions have improved since the morning and the wind looks like its going to back off for a while so we’ll get on the water ASAP” said Hogarth.

Rapa went into the competition as the favourite and started his run impressively with some massive moves however after a couple of falls he knew it was going to be a tough challenge to finish first.

“Last year, I didn’t event make the podium so I am stoked with 3rd place” said Rapa, adding “the conditions were tough out there on Koombana Bay and when the wind turned that made the water bumpy and difficult to land your tricks”.

Dark horse, Parker Seigle was pretty happy with his flawless run and really pulled out some big moves to place second behind Tezuka.

Seigle took on the testing waters of Koombana Bay and wasn’t too fazed by the choppy cross shore conditions.

“Its been a while since I’ve been back to WA and I love coming here; finishing second is a fantastic result as I haven’t had a podium finish for a while…thanks heaps Bunbury…I’ll be back” said Parker.

Tezuka made his debut in Bunbury this year and was relaxed about the tournament and was keen to test his skills on the beautiful waters of Koombana Bay.

Checking out the conditions early and seeing what the other competitors had strung together on their runs, Tezuka went to work like a quality tradesman, building on his repertoire of moves. He started out by testing the conditions and once he had that sorted, he was unstoppable.

Tezuka was easily the standout of the tournament and the judges were impressed with his solid combinations of tricks so they rewarded him accordingly.

Taking out first place on his maiden trip to Bunbury, Tezuka was ecstatic, “I am so happy to finish first on the podium and its been a long time coming, it gives me a lot of confidence going into the rest of year, so really happy I came to Bunbury…its such a beautiful place…I’ll be back that’s for sure”. Tezuka added.
